what occurs during a chemical reaction? what are the names given to the various substances that are invilved in a chemical reaction?

Generally in a chemical reaction, heat is either absorbed or given off and bonds are generally broken and/or formed creating new species. The starting materials in a reaction are called reactants and what is formed are called products.
