A few months before every season starts, they hold audtions in a few cities.
They won't be holding auditions for awhile now, since this season is just starting.
After this seasons finale, keep watching americanidol.com to find out when these audtions will be held.
Once you find out, arrive to the location early because there will hundreds of thousands of others wanting to audition, also.
The first thing you will be asked is to sing for the producers. If you make it passed the producers, you will get a chance to sing for the Judges.

Wait for hours/days on a huge line. There are many tables in a location where you first sing in front of various producers of the show. If they think you are that good or that bad, then you could get a shot to sing in front of Randy, Paula and Simon.
Not everyone gets that chance.

they hold tryouts in a handful of cities across the nation before each season. You need to find out what city they're coming to that's closest to you, and then go and sign up. Be prepared to spend a couple days...people try out in the thousands. Haven't you ever seen the first couple episodes of a season? It's all the people who tried out.

Can you sing? not just in the shower ,or family or friends told you you can sing .
because if that's the case ,you don't have a chance.

1) Check out their website in the summertime. They will post which cities they will be auditioning in.
2) Go to the audition.

you need to have a kind and not be a drama queen and be humble if you do well. also maybe have a hint of stupid and a good life story planned out and of coarse a kickin *** voice lol

You have to go to one of the audition sites and stand in line forever...then you either have to be good enough to get to the final judging or bad enough to get there.
