I am 38 weeks pregnant and live with my boyfriend. I am on medicaid and WIC programs and have been unemployed since I lost my job at 28 weeks. When I filed for medicaid and WIC programs I filed as single not showing my boyfriend's income. My question is will I need to add boyfriend's income if I give my son my boyfriend's last name on the birth certificate instead of mine or will it matter?

When I applied for medicaid and WIC, I was still employed. We couldn't afford health insurance and we were afraid that I wouldn't qualify if we gave both our incomes at the time. It really doesn't matter now that I am unemployed he doesn't make much more than I did when I worked and I don't plan on going back to work immediately anyhow. I was just trying to decide whether to add my boyfriend's info to my medicaid and WIC now or whether they would make me after the baby was here and noticed the baby's last name is different from mine. My boyfriend and I are not planning to get married anytime soon.

no. you are not married.

i did this with my daughter. i had to prove he was the father, because they need the father's info...but i was STILL single. just say you don't get child support. i never did.

good luck!

For the WIC program, it's not going to matter. But for medicaid, they are going to want to know who the father is because they are going to make him pay for the birth.

I'm not exactly sure but my best friends sister went through this and she didn't have to put his income down because they were not married so she was still considered a single mom. Every state is different though. Good luck and congrats!!!

you can still use your boyfriends name on the birth certifacte. But beware you will have to see the proscuting attorney to set up child support since you are saying he is not living with you. Also, does he make that much since you are not working to show he lives in the house? I am surprised the case worker hasnt asked you how are you supporting yourself. But, you will be in a world of trouble if they find out u are lying. Becareful!!

I do know ( depends on the state you live in) someone that tried to do that and they told her she had to make the father pay child support ( go to court and everything) even though it is fraud I do understand why you want to do this just find out everything before you do. Good Luck

you are just going to have to say that your boyfriend is not living with you and that you live alone. Other than that you are going to have to pay for insurance like everyone else. :)

Good Luck

It shouldn't matter about the last name. But I don't think that it's right that you didn't tell them about your boyfriend's income, it's illegal and wrong. But I can understand about needing help.

First of all that is fraud. Plain and simple. You were told you needed ALL the income in the household. But... no. Just because his name is on the birth certificate doesn't mean you have to add his income.
