The first game to be played under any semblance of the modern rules was playe din November of 1869 between Rutgers and Princeton. Rutgers won the game 6-4 and didn't win another game in the series until 1939!

American football as we know it has been around since 1869, when Rutgers and Princeton played the first game on American soil. The game is derived from rugby football. so this year we will be celebrating the 138th year of what we call American football.
