Should kosher symbols be requried on products?

Depends what you mean. If a product is kosher, it definitely SHOULD have a kosher symbol.

You see, the problem is that rabbis these days charge WAY too much money to place a kosher symbol on food products, which is why many companies don't do so. This causes much confusion, and results in many Jews buying non-kosher items thinking that they're kosher.

Required by whom and for whom? Putting a kosher symbol on a can of "pork & beans" is kind of pointless as most of us would know it isn't kosher just by reading the label.

On the other hand is there really a need to put a kosher symbol on each individual apple sitting in a bin of apples? Assuming they aren't wormy or rotten, they are kosher whether someone has put a symbol on them or not.

I'm assuming that you are only refering to food products as there is no need to check for a kosher symbol before buying a cell phone.

Do you mean that only kosher food products should be allowed to be sold? The majority of the world doesn't keep kosher, so why bother.
