Well, fe is the symbol for iron and it is saying iron of males because women help men so much they are their strength like iron. No women don't get offended by being called females. I, however, do get offended when somebody calls me their old lady. What is up with that?

Women are females. Men and boys are males and women and girls are females. What's to get offended?

The Question should be...
Why do people refer to men as Males?
If Women weren't "Females", Where would "Males" come from?
We get the word "male" from the word "female"

I think it's just a cultural thing and isn't intended to offend, but it annoys me. However, I'm more offended when grown women (especially over 30) are called "girls". No man would ever tolerate being called a "boy".

Well I do get offended that is. . Female does not always denote human. Its the female of the species. I want to be called a human woman.

I never even thought about the word "females" in an offensive way. It's just a way to say we're women/girls in a more formal way, like on applications and stuff.

when its talking down, yes it's offending.
but when i was in basic training, everyone had to refer to each other as female, and we were all referred to as females. but that was a professional/respectful reference. Not some guy on the street saying that 'females are whack'

Because we *are* female. I don't get offended by it. It's just a word. It's the same as saying I'm a woman.
This question reminds me of that one... 'why is it called a fork?'
;)
