My mom is pregnant with #6 and she's in her 40's. She is about 6 weeks now, and I was wondering, at how many weeks along is there a very low risk of miscarriage?

Like, what is the number of weeks when you (if you will) "hit the safe mark"? Can you miscarry at 2 mo.? See, I don't know these things... hehe.

Your mom would be considered to be advanced maternal age and therefore in the high-risk pregnancy category, which means that she is at a higher risk of miscarrying and that the fetus has a higher chance of having genetic abnormalities. There is no safe number of weeks when miscarriage is not possible. Typically, ob/gyns look for the 23-24 week period as a key time since that is when a baby will have a chance of living outside the womb (with NICU assistance). Unfortunately, miscarriage can happen in all trimesters.

Miscarriage in early pregnancy is very common. Studies show that about 10 to 20 percent of women who know they are pregnant have a miscarriage some time before 20 weeks of pregnancy; 80 percent of these occur in the first 12 weeks.

Usually, any time during the first trimester (first 3 months of pregnancy) is the most likely period for a miscarriage. You can miscarry at any time, but it occurs frequently then. However, your mother does have her age going against her, and she may be a high risk pregnancy due to that. There is no "Safe Mark." But please, don't worry about that. I'm sure she will be fine!

My good friend (age: mid 30's) lost a baby at 28 weeks... I don't know that there is a safe week, miscarriage is not the only thing that can happen. Regular Dr. visits & healthy lifestyle make a huge difference though! Good Luck & many prayers!

Miscarriages due to some disorders usually occur in the first 3 months. Unfortunately, a miscarrigae can occur at any time. But a healthy unborn child who also has a healthy mom has a great chance of survival.

Doctors say that the chances of miscarriage drop dramatically at 12 to 13 weeks.

There is no "safe" number of weeks when it comes to pregnancy. After a certain number though the death of the baby will change from miscarriage to still birth. Hope it does not happen in your case

Anything before 24 weeks is a miscarriage, anything after is a stillbirth. However either way you can loose a baby up til the day you deliver.

However the odds go down a lot at 12 weeks.

there is no chance ever of not having a miscarriage. You could have one at 8 months. After 12 weeks the chance of miscarriage greatly decreases- and then it decreases more for every week you are pregnant after that.
