This has nothing to do with political correctness dipsh*t. It has to do with something we like to call religious tolerance. Look it up, the congressman is not a Christian, he is a Muslim. The politican who made a big stink about that happening was an ignorant a**hole who had a problem with the fact that the very person being sworn in is a democrat. Get a brain and get over yourself.

Last time I checked this was still a country in which every member was free to worship whichever religion they pleased. Congressman Ellison's family has lived in this country for nearly 200 years. He converted to Islam in college. He is no terrorist.
Furthermore, this is really alot of ridiculous arguing over a non-issue. Members of Congress are forbidden to hold any religious text of any kind during the actual swearing in. It is only for the photo-op mock swearing ins that the members hold bibles, etc.

America "stands for" freedom of religious expression.
Just because SOME Muslims are terrorists, do not assume that they are planning as a whole to undermine your precious way of life.
When Christian extremists blew up the Oklahoma city building, we did not worry about people swearing on the bible.
The book they swear in on isn't one billionth as important as the job that they do once in office. Give the man a chance. If he sucks, his voters will let him know by replacing him.

Absolutely.
It has nothing to do with PC and everything to do with the basic religious freedom that America was founded on.
If I were elected to a political position in Iran, I would expect that swearing in on a Bible would be outlawed - should we follow suit? - or should we demonstrate to the world that America truly does stand for freedom and human rights?

Doesn't America stand for freedom of religious expression? It's close-minded people like yourself who are destroying what America stands for. If people were more tolerant, America and the world would be a lot less messed up.

First of all there is separation of church and state in the Constitution and the Bible, Quaran, or Torah are just symbols of truth. The individual swears by whatever book they may consider the truth and how they will uphold their position.

I dont mind his gesture of using the Koran because it is just ceremonial ( the actual swearing in you dont swear on anything) the second swearing in is just a photo op) however I do mind the bold face lie he told by saying that the Koran was used by Jefferson to help create the fabrics of this country. It is very well known that he had it to "know thy enemy" due to the Muslim pirates attacking the trade routes. This is a direct assertion to undermine this countries heritage.

If a Muslim swears on a Bible it means nothing. So yes he should swear in on the Qu'ran, anything else would be hypocritical. Now those that voted the man into office that is a different story. I don't know his politics or his character but it's a strange time in history to vote a Muslim into office, not sure what was going on there. It demonstrates to me a contempt from the left for the rest of the country.

No it shouldn't.
Some just truly don't see where this is heading. Fortunately, there are people like us that see it and call it what it is. Political correctness and another way of destroying America.

It was good enough for Thomas Jefferson, it should be good enough for you. By the way, one of the founding principles of the USA, since you are clueless about this, is freedom of religion. That includes Muslim/Islam. It doesn't mean freedom to worship, but only if you are a Christian, a Christian or a Christian. Try exercising religious tolerance like the rest of us tolerate ignorant, Republican Americans. Yes, even ignorant people are entitled to 'freedoms' under our systems of law and rights, even if they don't deserve or understand them.
