Make sure the outlet the lamp is plugged into is polarized correctly.

You didn't get electrocuted - this word means that you were killed by electricity. You got an electric shock.

If it was just a very quick spark and a zap, then it was probably a static shock - this is caused by electrons building up on you when you walk around. It happens particularly when you are wearing plastic soled shoes and your carpet has a lot of synthetic fibres in it. A static shock hurts but won't do you any harm.

If the shock felt like it went right up your arm, felt like a vibration and lasted more than about a millisecond, it could be a current shock. This is dangerous and yes, it could have killed you. You should unplug the lamp and get someone to check it out.

If the shock was just instantaneous, or if you heard a snap noise, or saw a spark, it would have been static.

If it was a longer, numbing shock, it probably was electricity. If that were the case, you simply had to be touching two conducting things. The two things could have been very close together. If the plug were not properly polarized and the cord has three conductors, touching the threads on a light bulb and the shell around it could give you a shock.

It is worth looking into.

Maybe your foot or something pulled on the wire. You wouldn't die because I got shocked or electrocuted a few years ago before and after I went swimming, because my hands were wet when i pulled on it. I'm in 5th.

Could have been static electricity.
