I recently watched "Dead Man's Chest" again and have many questions about the weak plot line.

1.) In the beginning, why is Elizabeth sitting in the rain? Will hadn't yet been arrested, so her wedding couldn't have already been interrupted. (meaning it was stupid to sit in the rain and ruin her dress and hair) Where were all of the guests if the wedding IS being interrupted?

2.) Why did Elizabeth chain Jack to the ship? She said it was because the kraken was after him and not the ship. But just a few minutes earlier she WATCHED him row away from the ship safely. (The kraken kept attacking the Pearl, it didn't go after Jack) Her logic makes no sense, given what she has witnessed.

3.) If the heart was so important, why didn't Davy Jones send his men to the island to make sure Norrington didn't have it? And why didn't he hunt down the group in the long boat? The heart was WAY too important for him to just let everyone get away, and none of them could have out run him.

I don't expect a plot to be "perfect or deep" but as a writer, myself, I would like things to make some sense. I didn't even bother touching on the many coincidences, contrived plot parts, historical and geographical inaccuracies. But I DO believe that the most basic parts of the plot should make sense.

I can't just sit and vacantly watch a movie, I do pay attention to the story line and notice when things don't come close to making sense. There were many gaping holes in this movie, which made it very disappointing to me.

I disagree with the idea that "it doesn't have to make sense" We are paying for the movie, therefore, we are the consumer. We don't buy a car and accept the fact that pieces are missing. Why should a movie be different?

In question number THREE, I am referring to what happens after Jack "dies". Davy found the box empty and did nothing to try to get the others, but they couldn't have gotten away from him. Why didn't he send his crew out to find out which one had the heart?

1) ok the people didn't come because there town was being taken over by Lord Cutler Beckett and his men. andWill had already been arrested so that's why he was not there. and i mean, its a dramatic affect-sitting alone, all pretty on her wedding day, in the rain, with no guests. that's sad and it gives you the sense that something bad has happened or will happen (and bad stuff does happen).

2) it was after capt. jack, but since it was already preocupide with sinking the black pearl (cause it thought capt. jack was on it still) the kraken couldn't swim after capt. jack fast enough. hmm wait now. this is making me question it. but i know for a fact that it was after capt. jack and he was gonna go down with his ship.

3) by the time he realized the heart was stolen, it was too late for him to go after norrington or the group in the long boat. Jones' men had to bring the chest back to him which was supposed to be a time lapse of about 2 weeks (if you watch the writer's commentary on the DVD it will explain it) so it took a while for him to realize it was gone. by then, norrington was back with the heart and capt. jack was about to die

good questions!! hope i could help! ;)

1st. Perhaps Elizabeth feels the impending doom.. and goes outside of the church to think- then it starts raining. The guests are still inside the church, although the church is never shown. When WIll is arrested, he is taken from under a hanging dome sort of thing by the garden (where Elizabeth had been sitting in the rain). I really think this was like a courtyard outside the building they were getting married in.

2nd. The Kraken is not that smart- thus it follows Davey Jones commands. It was commanded to take down the ship and Jack- but would not know the difference. After Jack would have escaped and everyone aboard the ship had been eaten or drowned, Davey Jones would have realized Jack was still alive. He would have sent the Kracken after him. Either way, unless Jack got to land he would die. Elizabeth just made his death come faster- and Davey Jones had no reason to send the Kracken after her or Will. Thus, they would have been saved if Jack was killed.

3. Davy Jones thought that the heart was safe in the chest on his boat. This is why he didn't follow Norrington. He trusted his men to have gotten it- knowing that the men were afraid of him and knew Davey Jones could do horrible things to them if they didn't. No one said that Davy Jones had to always make smart decisions.

1] I think he was REALLY late, and, of course, rain's just there to make it look more emo than it is.

2] The kraken might have thought Jack was still on the ship earlier.

3] That question kind of confused me a little, but I think that he thought that the heart was in the chest still, and that's why his men were after the chest.

The weak plot line is due to the fact that the writers were rushed [the script wasn't even completed when they began filming], and not to mention that the sequel's never as good as the original. ;P

ok it's been a couple week since i've watched this movie but if i recall correctly....
1)when she was sitting in the rain the other scenes that were going on like flashbacks to what happened which is why she is sitting in the rain.

2)the krakken finds people by the ship they are on...not by the actual person. thats why when he rowed away it kept attacking because it doesn't know exactly who it is after it just knows the ship it's supposed to be attacking otherwise it wouldn't attack the whole ship it would just ge thte person it needs and be on it's marry way. therefor by chaining him to the ship the krakken gets what it wants by destroying the ship but they get away not having to worry about it getting sent back to them my Davey Jones.

3) i don't really have an answer to this part because like said it has been a couple weeks since i last watched it.
Now i hope that helps!

I thought that it was a cute movie, and Johnny Depp as cute. I didn't care that it made no sense...

1. i just thought that the opening scene as pretty and i kinda thought that it as poetic the way that she as sitting in the rain.

2. thought that she chained him to the ship because he had to fulfill his destiny and his deal with Davy Jones. She did it so that they would have a chance to get away.

3. Davy Jones didn't go after the heart because that left an opening for another movie.

Not everything has to make sense.

1. elizabeth thought will was standing her up so she was sad and didnt care about her dress anymore

2. the kraken thought he was still on the ship so it kept attacking. it wanted jack n the ship not the crew.

3. he was afraid will would get it not norrington and he did send his men to the island they were just too late. he thought it would be more fun to use the kraken,

1] She was sitting in the rain because she knew that the wedding was going to be interrupted. In the beginnging of the movie you see themen in red coming up from the beach. The guest were hiding.

2] Elizabeth didn't chain jack to the ship. jack chained himself. If you watch the movie again and look at the scene closely, then you will seethat jack chained himself to the blck pearl

3]yeah i mean i get where you got this but you got all wrong
davy jones didn't send his men out because he thought that no one was smart enough to find his heart

How old are you????

Oh, now you are taking all the fun out of the movie for yourself. I LOVE the series and CAN'T WAIT to see Barbosa in Pirates III. Next to Jack (adorable Jack) he is my favorite.
Seriously, don't take the plot so seriously. The banter between the characters, the scenery, the yucky Davey Jones character should be more than enough to entertain you.
The plot was not meant to be deep.

Its just a movie...I asked the same questions and millions of others did to..its got something to do with the third movie to keep the audience waiting to piece together the whole plot for all the movies..I was making an observation about her..and think she is really in love with Captain Jack.but well realized they put question marks in it to give me ideals as to guessing what is going on to get their cash when the next one roles in.. old industry trick..

Hopefully the third movie will explain all this. Otherwise, it would seem that many crucial scenes were deleted due to time constraints. IE: Harry Potter films (if you didn't read the books, the movies don't make a lick of sense)
