Why would you want to persuade fellow colonist to boycott British goods? Why would you be for them? Can someone please explain this to me?? (This is all around the seven-teen hundreds)

It was right before the American Revolution.
The British controlled present-day America, and therefore controlled its supplies and trade. At one point they started raising and implementing taxes on British goods and prevented the colonies from getting goods from other countries.The colonists arranged a boycott, because if no one was buying the products, sales would drop DRAMATICALLY, so the company would have to lower its prices and make the goods affordable.
The big part of the argument was that the colonies had no say in legislature ("taxation without representation").
