Seeing all these confused people, asking computer questions, I can't help but wonder why they don't just buy Macs.

Yes, I know each has pros and cons. I'm just teasing you all a little. :)

Some of you have mentioned the cost of Macs. In reality, over time a Macintosh computer costs approximately the same as a PC. They last longer and come with things that are "extra" for a lot of PC's, like LCD displays, wireless cards, DVD burners, and so on. Also, because they are build with quality materials, they rarely need repair and almost never crash (unless you get a lemon, which happens). Their tech support is excellent, although you never really need it because everything is so intuitive.

The idea that there is no Mac software is a myth. I can do anything on my Mac that one could do on a PC, and I could do it faster, create a superior result, and look a lot better doing it. :) Just ask the WoW players I just beat up.

BTW: almost everything in the above two paragraphs except my snarky "look better" remark, I took practically verbatim from Consumer Reports.

Although mac does have a track record for being a better system, Lets face it technology wasnt built on one idea or computer. It was built off of multiple ideas and standards. IBM based computer have upheld that belief all through the models and designs and to today still are fundamentally changing. To say that they are a better standard would be wrong but to say that they repesent the idea of the computer better would be right.

Because Macs are actually harder to configure without a sound knowledge of Unix - and not all of us like either Macs or the arrogant attitude promoted by the company itself

*edit*
The only reason there are less viruses around for Macs is the lack or financial incentive for hackers and virus writers (which are after all developed for the purpose of making money). Anyone care to ponder how quickly that would change if Macs suddenly became a popular as some people seem to want?

*edit*
And there's another thing - did you realise that OS X (as the cracked version proved) actually runs much faster on a PC than it ever has on Apple's own hardware that they charge so god-damned much extra for??

experience wise, people asking these sorts of questions are still learning. i've been working off of PCs for 20+ years (i started out young) and i was introduced to Macs before i learned programming, graphic work, and networking on PCs.

what i've noticed is that people would love a mac except for the high ticket price and the lack of local friend support. i can't believe i supported Macs before. that was NOT a strike on the Mac people out there, Macs are definitely aestheitcally pleasing as well as powerful.

i work in the network and technical support industry in silicon valley and i don't know many who own a mac but when they do, they definitely know how to work it. in fact, those who i know that own a mac either A - work with graphics or sound OR B - just can't stand being near a computer unless they have to.

the way you've teased them about their macs would be the same way i'd be teased if i were to forget very basic unix/linux commands or simple networking terminology or history in the industry.

i love my tech peeps out there one and all whether you're a newbie or an oldie... on a Mac, PC, HPC, Treo, smartphone, etc... you're all still my buddies. tech helps make the world go round. ^_^

I agree but there are a few setback to the macs .Way more expensive, and nobody really cares about the mac minis. Not as much software and support. There are also many advantages like no viruses or spyware.

I personally dislike Mac's. I had that darn thing freeze on me more than my PC ever did. Not to mention PC's have simple shortcuts I can use to do simple stuff such as cut and paste. I hate not having my right click button

Gemma- "They have trouble with PC's? Let them use Macs!"
Marie Antoinette- "They have trouble with bread? Let them eat cake!"

Macs (and cake) are a luxury for the wealthy. Us poor peasants have to get by on PC's (and stale bread). Flaunting your wealth and ignorance of our needs won't help.

Don't lose your head over such an argument

Macs are mucho better than PC's (imho) but, they are far more expensive... I am a PC user but I love the layout of the Mac's OS systems far more than Windows or Linux... but sadly I am too poor to swtich to a mac. =)

most of the people having these problems with PC's would also have them with Mac's, I see plenty of Mac questions here also.

Because we don't like over-paying for proprietary hardware just to fatten up Jobs and Wozniaks wallets.

Those guys have been screwing people with their pricing for over 20 years ;-)
