For an extra-credit assignment, I need to watch a movie set in the 1800s, preferably something to do with British imperialism in India/Africa, or the Crimean War (not documentaries, but historical fiction). Most of the ones I found on IMBD were filmed in the 1900s, but I would like to watch something made more recently. Are there any good historical movies you've watched and could recommend?

Check out Lagaan.
It's set in British ruled India in the 1800's. Great story as well.

well just because they were made in the 1900s doesn't mean their crap most of the greatest movies ever made were filmed in the 1900s besides there is an awful lot of bullcrap made today so to get the full effect of the movie you may just want to get something with some critical acclaim filmed in the 1900s like the movie zulu with michael caine or charge of the light brigade

There's nothing fun about a historical movie :P National Treasure was pretty good. That had some history to it.

Cold Mountain is pretty good. It's about the Civil War though.

Time machine is a good one, it also shows how things changed before his eyes.
Vanity Fair is good also follows a few years and changes in society.
