I agree, I dont like dell for one reason. PRAPRIETARY. They manufacture alot the parts that go into there computers. They are not very upgradable and extremely hard to get parts for. The computer is still a functional internet computer, but if anything goes wrong with it your stuck. I recommend running it for another 6-8 months and then get and hp or compaq. They run for about the same price but there are alot less "Gotch yeahs". Also there easier to upgrade and maintain value for 5-7 year as apposed to dell's service record of 3-5.

If you don't play games or doing any video/photo editing than you can use the old Dell. Upgrade only if you want to have the latest technology. Your PC is fine for everyday use and the internet.

I always recommend Dell to my clients because of the onsite maintanence and replacement warranty, but otherwise, they're extremely overpriced for the consumer market. Consider buying an Acer or a store brand. You'll be just as happy with the performance for 1/4 the cost. Just make sure you'll be eligible for a store repair/replacement warranty for a decent period of time.

I don't like or recommend Dell but if your current is working fine for your needs why upgrade to a new one?
RAM maybe add another 512MB.
