Federal courts have limited jurisdiction unlike the Supreme Court. The decisions of the lower courts can be reviewed by the Supreme Court if there are valid grounds. Thus, there are different courts depending upon the jurisdiction. Lower courts can try cases with less amount involved or if the crime committed are petty ones. The higher courts try cases involving more money or if the penalty is life imprisonment or death.
