Marvel Ultimate Alliance (PS2) What r those greenish things w/ Shield logos on them? Not the save points.?

Sometimes when you beat an enemy a large green orb w/ a Shield logo will pop up. I walk my character into it, but they never disapear. What are these things? I'm not talking about the save points.. These green things are larger than red and blue orbs but not as big as the blue Shield save points.

They must be gear upgrades or weapons. Either way, pick them up by pressing Square to wield the weapon/gear upgrade. The gear upgrades are all good, except for one called Loki's Gift, which you get by killing Loki the first time around. Sell it off.
