more concerned about whether they'll get re-elected? what's your opinion?

gafreak93. i'm not a republican or a democrat, i'm just against illegal wars( undecided on whether this one is illegal though, as of right now). but all i'm saying is, if they really think (whether they are man/woman is beside the point) its wrong to send more troops to iraq, then they should deny funding even if it means not getting re elected, if they don't then you know they are only in office for personal glory and not to do the right thing.

As they say, it is all politics. To the voters, it means nothing without action.

Not all democrats support funding and troop surges. Some do though, I heard Hillary Clinton actually said that a troop surge might be a good thing (I suspect I might be mistaken or she was using that for her political advantage). Not all republicans want troop surges or increased funding. But some of the minority do.

Honestly, the problems in Iraq are quite extensive and contrary to what people are saying, I think it isn't exaggerated. It is hard to figure out at this point what is the best solution because either way we go it will be up to debate.

But if you look at it this way, increasing troops and funding hasn't helped much in the past years so I am not sure if we should approach it this way because this strategy hasn't worked.

I support a withdrawal from Iraq only if we have a good exit strategy. It doesn't help if we just abandoned Iraq because we are ones who started the war. We shouldn't leave the mess up to others to clean up. It is easy to take down a government in Iraq but it is hard to put the country back together with people united. We went into this war ill equipped on how to deal with different sides.

I just wish the politicans stop bickering and start doing something. Iraq has distracted America from other issues and we need to have some closure. I don't know where the funding has been going in the past and I haven't seen progress. They talk about bipartisanship but you know that isn't going to happen. The problem is that the Republican majority in past years gave the president a "free ride" in terms of Iraq. And the Democrats who voted for the war, did so because they were intimidated, did it for their own political gain, and thought that is what the American people wanted (that's a loaded word right there).

Politicians are lawmakers, decision makers, and worry about their image in the public (well, at least I hope so.). They campaign hard for your votes to get them re-elected.

The Democrats are men and women enough to stand up for what they believe just as Republicans are men and women enough to stand up for what they believe. I also believe that at least 90% of all politicians in either party are much concerned in getting re-elected. It's the career they've chosen and unfortunately, not always an honorable one.

Where is it written that all democrats beleive the same thing? If so, what we need is NO parties... just elected lawmakers that actually do the will of the people, not of the party.

it rather is merely that the leftys like Reid and Kennedy and Pelosi and Durbin and Feingold hate George Bush better than they love usa. they are employing the troops as pawns. The President vetoed the bill by way of timetable the cowards positioned into it and the $24 billion in pork projects they tacked onto it with a view to bribe votes out of fence-sitting cowards.
