Whiteflies are an insect that damage plant leave by rasping if stripping off part of the leaf surface to be able to feed on the "juices" from the wound. Sometimes you may see the egg masses on the leaves or stacks of the plant and some people think this is a fungus or mold. Whitefly is usually seen swarming around the plant like a small cloud. Do not confuse with fungus gnats which are harmless. If it is whitefly you have and not a disease then any good insecticide (even the "organics") will effectively control them. It may take repeat applications of 5 - 7 days apart to get adequate control. I hope this info helps.

Whitefly is a fly it is not a disease. This is an actual insect and it's really white, but very tiny. What type of tree do you have it on?? I work in a greenhouse and we have gotten plants (but never on a tree) in from other greenhouses with whiteflies. We spray them with a mixture of 1 teaspoon dawn dish soap mixed in a windex bottle of water. We also keep these plants totally seperated from our other plants!!

Whitefly are insects and not a disease. They would leave the leaves with yellow spots on them where they had sucked the sap out of the leaves, sometimes producing honey dew.

You may be referring to Leaf curl which is a fungal disease where infected leaves are puckered and curled and the affected parts go a red or purple colour eventually.

If it is leaf curl, spray with copper oxychloride or copper hydroxide just before early bud-swell. Once the leaves are out it is too late and you you have to wait till next year when the leaves are in bud again to spray.

"Check with yourCooperative Extension farm advisor" [or Master Gardener Program] "about the status of the biological control program in your area. Insecticides are not generally recommended because they destroy the biological control agents. A forceful stream of water (syringing) directed at colonies can be just as effective as insecticide sprays."--from the URL below

Whitefly are difficult to eradicate, but their impact can be reduced with an integrated pest management program as suggested in this UC Davis publication.

regrettably, whiteflies are distinctly lots unaffected by common pesticides. the final therapy is spraying on an insecticidal cleansing soap or oil. And, you already understand how sensible it is. a woman from South Carolina did as quickly as furnish this therapy: Get some chewing tobacco and make a tea out of it (steep it in a pan of warm water). upload this tea to the insecticide or cleansing soap spray. interestingly the nicotine interior the tobacco burns the whiteflies and that they pass away.
