I have New Super Mario Bros. That's pretty good. I've heard that Mario Kart DS is great, but I haven't played it. Also try Yoshi's Island DS (you control Yoshi but he's carting around a baby Mario), which I would get except it's the same game as Yoshi's Island for GBA. If you're not particular about whether it's for DS or GBA, try the Super Mario Advance series for GBA. My favorite is Super Mario World, it's challenging and there's lots of extra worlds you can beat. The first one, Super Mario Advance, is just okay, Super Mario World is excellent, Yoshi's Island is the same as the DS, and the Super Mario Bros. game in this series is decent, but the DS one is better.
Hope I helped, or at least made some sense!
Good luck!

Take a look at the Game Boy Advanced versions of games for things like Super Mario Brothers - those are totally usable on the DS and are a ton of fun!
I have one of them, but I dont remember the proper title - it's like the Super Mario Brothers Classics that also includes 2 other Super Mario Brother games as well in one GBA cartridge...

the only real good mario games are for the home platforms. (super mario sunshine Gumecube) (Super mario 64 and Party for N64) (Super Mario 1, 2, and 3 for NES) (Super Mario World for the SNES) I heard of one good game for the DS; Super Mario DS.
