Are you also having that gurgling noise under the dash. It sounds like the motor's coolant level is really low or the gurgling is actually the coolant boiling inside the coolant system. Either way, stop driving the truck until repaired as this will kill the motor quickly. First be sure there are no leaks and if there are repair them. Next you will have to check flows. One that is often overlooked is the free flow through the radiator/condenser of air. This can be debris or a type of fungus that grows on the fins. Remove the shroud and inspect down between the two and if you see a lot of fur or crap, pressure wash the livin' you know what out of it until it is clean and you can easily see through the fins using a light. Also check the fan clutch for free spin and also locking up. If this is okay, you will have to remove the thermostat, (Did you put the right thermostat in?), and some of the hoses. Once disconnected, shove a garden hose in different hoses to see where and how good the coolalnt system flows. Some bad points to these motors, clogged internal rads, broken or corroded heater hose connectors, collapsed and leaking intake manifolds, or shifted water pump gaskets. Good luck.

i mechanic for a living,,and its possible the thermostat may have went bad,,i put 4 in,,one car in less than 3 days before i ever got a good one,,they can go bad at anytime,,even a new one will,,other than that id check and see that the coolant was full ,and the water pump was circulating real good in it,,a water pump can be bad,,and never leak a drop,,the fins on them get worn out,,and it wont push the coolant through the engine fast enough to keep it cool,,i see this all the time in the repair business ,,check it out,,and also check for any hoses that may be collapsing on it,,good luck hope this help,s.

Does it have enough anti-freeze? Ice does not flow well through the engine.
