I am visiting a friend in Connecticut and would like to go up to boston for a day. Would like ideas of daytime touristy things to do. A very boston like dinner. And some fun nightlife. (not too young a crowd for the nightlife.... we are two 30 year olds). Also... this is happening in February... could be cold... Any advice would be greatly appreciated

For dinner, if you like seafood then I would recommend the Union Oyster House, although there are lots of other good seafood restaurants. (Not Legal Seafood - it's good, but overrated and there are many better places.) Or go to the North End - the historic Italian neighborhood. No matter where you eat dinner, do not miss Mike's Pastry in the North End for dessert. Get dessert there and then get more for them to box up and take some home. Mike's Pastry is amazing.

The Freedom Trail is always a good walk, especially if the weather's good and you're into the history stuff. And Harvard Square/Harvard Yard is always fun.

Quincy Market is the main place tourists usually go, and although it is touristy it is pretty cool - a kind of open air (with a roof) market with food stalls of every food you can imagine, cool shopping and a lot of Boston atmosphere.

Newbury Street is the trendy street and great for strolling up and down and people watching.

I agree that Anthony's on the Waterfront is great, and so is Legal Seafood. Also, Top of the Hub is a great restaurant at the top of the Prudential Building (Skyscraper) so it has an awesome view.

I also recommend the Observatory on the top of the Hancock Building. It is only $5 and has fantastic views and lots of Boston history displays.

The isabella S Gardiner Museum is lovely. If it's a nice day, walk around the Old North End, go to the Old North Church where Paul revere made his "ride/ring bells" there and his home too..I found his home fascinating. There is a great restaurant in the old north end called Restaurant Villa Francesca which I love. Anthony's on the Waterfront is a place to go that is very Boston for seafood, fresh lobster. If you like to shop. you will enjoy the mall stretching from the Marriott to the Westin and back on the other side towards the Prudential Center..and it's a great place to spend the day if the weather is bad.

Something you shouldn't miss in that area, closer than Boston, a living history museum called Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge Mass. Worth the trip!
