They are believing what the media is telling them. That's why they have such distorted views of the whole thing. They are mentally lazy by allowing other people to think for them. They are like robots. They only spew out what they hear. It's really quite sad!

About a dozen books by various experts. The fact that the predictions of those who saw that we were committing too few troops, for too short a time were correct. The fact that every expert on what it would take to create security in Iraq was correct and all of their negative predictions have come true. The fact that every one of the predictions by the administration has proved wrong (we would be welcome as liberators; the insurgency was just a few malcontents; there were weapons of mass destruction; the insurgency would end when there was a constitution, then elections, then a new security strategy, etc). The fact that the number of Iraqis dying is going up on a continuing basis. The fact that one must pretend that every news report coming out of Iraq is false to continue to believe the war is going well. The fact that the casualty rates for American troops as a percentage of troops committed is higher than in Vietnam. The fact that my experience tells me that the people on the ground often have a narrow sliver of reality and that they have a huge emotional and psychological commitment to believe their efforts are worthwhile to maintain their sanity.
I have never been to the moon, but I know the atmosphere is not one humans can survive in. I never got to see Sandy Koufax pitch in person but I know he was one of the greatest pitchers of all time. I did not personally know Shakespeare, but I know he was the greatest play write in the history of the English language. I was born 80 years after Abraham Lincoln died but I have read enough to know he was our greatest president (and I say that as a professor of Political Science who studies the presidency).
The evidence for evaluating the war in Iraq as a total misadventure is overwhelming whether one has ever been there or not.

I approach it from as many angles as I can.
- How many people have died. US and Iraqi's
- What were the reasons for going? WMD's and 9/11. Both of which have nothing to do with Iraq.
- There is a corporate feeding frenzy going on in Iraq. That is who this war has benefitted, no one else.
- In 20 years, will we be safer because of this war? The children of the people we've wrongfully killed will want their revenge.
And if you want to take your stance, how can people who have never been in the military at all justify making military decisions?

Right on! These pantywaists have been spoon fed nothing but "Bush is bad... the war is bad.. it's all about the oil" type stuff by the left and the media for so long they're like little parrots.. just repeat what you hear, and if you say it & hear it long enough, it must be true. Don't bother getting any facts or the other side of the story, just keep repeating...

How can I justify this war as being bad? Try over 3,000 killed so far. That's just our troops. No one from Iraq attacked us....so why are we there in the first place?? Oil......

Not every American can go to Iraq, ...or wants to. So, America has to make up it's mind based upon some source of information.

I make my decision based on the fact that I detest violence, whether it's a war or a fight between two middle school kids.
