Turtle farming for food? Small, specialty market.

Turtle farming for by-products- smaller market

Turtle farming for pets- decent market, but not real profitable. These guys breed slowly, and the easy to breed species are already flooding the market.

Imagine this- you decide to breed Red-foot tortoises. You buy a breeding herd of about 5 young (2 male, 3 female) and spend nearly $1000 for the stock. You'll spend about $2000 for the set-up and equipment overhead. They won't breed for about 5 years and at first, you'll only get a few babies a year that you can sell for about $100 each.
