she has a sore on the outside of her ear that she has had for 3 months but when she shakes her ear it breaks open and bleeds on her head. My boyfriend has looked inside her ears with one of those ear scopes but nothing found, even our local vet said its just a sore on her ear, I dont know if there is something going on in her ear that makes her shake her head or rub her ear causing the sore or is it just the sore on her ear that is itching and she is shaking her head because it itches, Any comments, you can see her on http://hollithesidecardog.com

My lab had a sore on his head, I cleaned it and put some neosporin on it a couple of times and the spot healed. She also could have ear mites. There is medicine that you can use to clean the ears.

She may have a slight ear infection or it could be a bit of excess earwax. When my cat was like that, (had the same problem) I used a drop of an earwax dissolving solution for people. You can warm it 'just a little bit' and use one drop, then manually massage it in ever so gently. That will help, if nothing else, the itching. The vet said that was about the only thing he could recommend that wasn't costly.

Then, for the sore on her ear, I used an old home remedy of my grandmothers when all the OTC stuff was ineffective. I made a combination 'sugar and soap' paste. I applied it to her sore and within a week the sore was healed up, even though many times she would wash her ears, it still worked. I corsely grated a little bit of Dial (or you can use the liquid) and added regular sugar and made a paste from it. It can't hurt to try it, and it won't hurt your pet as it's just antibacterial soap. The combination of the two must have a propulsion when the chemistry of the sugar and the soap are mixed. I truly don't know what it is, but that is my best guess. At any rate, it worked, and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. If that fails (depending on the type of sore,) you could always try an anitbiotic ointment.
