Congradulations! Welcome to being a woman! Being 13 it is very common to have irregular periods. Personally I think I had something like 4 periods during the first year I got them. The only downside you will have now is that you are not able to predict when your next period will be.

It might be a good idea to talk to your mom (however embaressing it may be). I know mine took me out to dinner and bought me some clothes to "celebrate". Your mom can help you with using pads and tampons, and help you understand what is "normal" around this time.

The only bad news I have is that next time you have it, it could be a lot heavier. It might be a good idea to carry around a pad and an extra set of underwear in your school bag in case it happens at school...

Well, at thirteen, your body is just beginning to get used to the new hormones of puberty. Irregularity is very common and if you spotted pretty heavily, then that was probably your period. Don't be worried unless you've been having unprotected sex. Eventually, your body will sort everything out and your periods will become more predictable.

It could just be your body getting ready. No one really starts out regular. When I was your age, my first period lasted 21 days. Everyone is different. It's normal to have cramping, and/or bloating for a couple days before hand. I wouldn't really worry about. You'll know when your body is ready. These things take time. You're still young.

My first one was undeniable bright red blood- brown blood is old blood, so it could have been your period, but it might have just been a completely random thing.

Just wait. You will be hit by a regular cycle before you know it, and so you should enjoy these pain-free days while they last :)
