No it isn't illegal, that's what private detectives do.... however, if someone not licensed to do that type of work in your area ... such as a friend of yours.. and your boyfriend finds out that he is being tailed... he can contact the police and have the person arrested for stalking. If you hire a private detective and you will pay through the nose... and they see he is doing some illegal activity instead of cheating... he will then go to jail. Not only that but it isn't like this is your husband if he is your boyfriend and you feel this strongly about him cheating why don't you just move on. This is the type of things people with insecurity issues do, and to me is a bit extreme... if you caught him cheating... would it change anything or would you just ask him why.. and if that is the case.. you should already know the answer to why.. because you are too needy.. clingy....so really is it worth it?

I think that if you feel you need to pay someone to watch your boyfriend, then its time to get a new boyfriend. Life's to short, there's obviously something going on that made you think this way to begin with and that feeling alone sucks. I know from personal experience, but I just sucked it up, told him to get on and come to find out the intuitions that I kept having about him cheating were correct. So follow your instincts and don't waste your money.
If you absolutely feel the need to pay someone then there are P.I's that can do it for you. And it's not illegal.
Good Luck with everything

It sounds like you want to hire a private investigator. That is a perfectly legitimate business.

No, that's how private detectives make their living. Also police also stake out and follow suspects all the time.....and they're paid by the taxpayers...
