The egg.

It was laid by a Red Junglefowl, a Gallus species originating in Asia. It is not a chicken; it is, however, the ancestor of all chickens.

Somewhere down the line, one of the Red Junglefowl's eggs' DNA was mutated, and the egg produced a new kind of bird, a chicken. Which means, the Red Junglefowl's egg came before the chicken. And the first true chicken egg was laid by that chicken.

I logiced this out quite a while ago. The chicken is a domestic animal, which means it has been bred. (In other words either letting 2 unsimilar birds mate or genetically altering the egg or sperm of the bird) Either way the egg comes first. I think......
A bird of similar size to a chicken could easily incubate an egg but the chicken has to come from an egg. My thoughts in short 2 unsimilar birds (both not chicken mate and female lays egg) The egg is a cross between the birds and female bird incubates egg. egg hatches and chicken comes out. don't forget domestic dog breeds stem from wolves etc. Can't anyone else see the possibility that chickens were bred such that the egg of the two species made to mate bred the chicken?

None and both. During evolution there are no discreet lines between species. There are no tags that say 'this is a chicken and this is not'. These are just for our own convenience and easier viewing of the world. If we could fast rewind time and watch poultry evolution (I love this phrase!) you would be unable to clearly point out when it became a chicken from smth else. This might seem clearer if you considered the fact that we exist only due to the continuous reproduction of species that started form mere protozoa.

ps: This does not necessarily reject god as even the Church sees the Bible as a simplification of the truth

The egg couldn't survive without chicken. Something had to warm the egg to keep the embryo alive. Without the chicken, the egg couldn't have hatched, therefore the chicken came first.

God made the chicken with the ability to reproduce and make more chickens by way of the egg.

Hello there, you have a very interested question. The answer is the Rooster. The reason for that is because the Rooster have to mate the hen. Without the Rooster there will be no egg and without the Rooster there is no chicken.

Bye bye
Good luck!!

Evolution brought about a chicken, then the chicken laid eggs. The Chicken was clearly first.

You can't have a chicken egg without a chicken. So the chicken came first.

I would really be interested to know what dumb cluck first came up with this question.
