just why do people ask all these questions on d.i.y. If I couldnt do it I wouldnt start it. All those I have read up to now I could do myself and I 58 year old woman. I mean who would put tiles in there bathroom then put the sink in without realising the sink would be higher and the pipes wouldnt reach. the only good one is the person that said about staining the shed before erecting and that is yes, but do the outside agin after it up.

Surely the point of asking question is to learn ?

Can you fit a new stretcher lintel to an A frame to transfer weight to other walls rather than the internal wall plate and allow the ceiling hieght to be raised, obviously replastering, wiring and plumbing along the way ?

I can, but i don't come in here complaining about people who can't.

People should be allowed to be at different levels of competance without getting criticism form others.

I notice your "best answer" % is 4%. So that means 96% of questions you answer are not percieved as good as others. Where would we be if all those people complained about how bad your contribution was ?

And i've also looked at one of your DIY answers. The one about not capping off the hot is just plainly wrong. Service valves are not isolation valves and are prone to weeping and leaking as the ambient temperature changes. Unused hot washing machine outlets should be capped. Should i post a question about why do 58 year olds post wrong answers ?

I didn't bother with all your other answers, i'm sure they are all perfect.

I agree with you madam, but it just shows how very incompetent some people are. I am a plumber and on one job recently I had to turn the water off at the main stopcock. I asked the owner where his main tap was. He said he didn't know, and I asked him how long has he lived in the house. He told me he had lived there for 42 years, and had never had the water turned off, that is why he didn't know where this tap was. You would think that for his own safety he would have known this.

Because many of these people will be physically capable of doing the job but, until they have the knowledge on how to go about it, are unable to do it themselves. So, you know the answers to ALL the DIY problems you have read? Then don't be such a cow by berating people who know less than you and HELP THEM OUT!

I bought my husband a brilliant book from B& Q which covers evrything. He always reads throught he relevant section before starting anything to mak sure he understands what is involved. if too much he does not attempt the job. If evryone did the same there would be no problems.

Go ahead and try to feel superior about yourself, at least people are trying to take the initative and do something instead of sitting on a couch doing nothing. The whole point of this forum is to ask people for help. Not everyone is an expert. If you are so put out by the questions try this. STOP READING THEM AND GO ELSEWHERE.

Hey, they want to try it before calling somebody. Stupid questions make more sense than stupid answers. Never be afraid to try something new, remember, an amateur built the ark, a team of professionals built the Titanic.

I'm the same as you. I wont do any diy if I haven't a clue. That's why the house is a dump though!
