I'm so sick of seeing such rubbish on here about sensitive men being gay or any man who watches his weight or looks after his appearance isn't manly enough. To me my husband is manly because he supports his family, puts in the hours at work, admits when he needs help and is confident enough to cry without thinking less of himself. He cooks, has no problem changing the baby and is just so comfortable and confident in himself. He accepts his responsibilities and doesn't try to run from them and stays standing after every trial life throws at him. He loves shopping, interior design, chick flicks (he always cries lol) and most of his friends are female. I'd say he's more of a man than most macho gorillas who reason with their fists. I'm curious about what views others might have on this though. What makes a man?

It sounds like to me you have your definition right on. I agree with you. Being a mature man "or a manly man" means exactly what you have said. Bravo!

To me, manly is one that's masculine yet moral. I can't stand "macho gorillas". They're more animal than man and seem to be compensating for something if they have to feel the need to act like that. If you're really a man with confidence and you know it then you shouldn't feel the need to act like that. I'll take a sexy gentlemen over a thug any day of the week.

Manly: A man doing his role in society.
But I think what you describe about your husban is not manly, it's just being human, and doing a humanly job and responsibility. Because a man could describe the same about a woman and that woman could become the ideal woman for a man.

You nailed it!

I am a man, so my understanding of manly is what i am trying to follow. A real man first of all is virtuous, which includes: being humble and honest towards all, loving to his family and friends, forgiving to his enemies, sober, clean in his intentions and modest in his desires. I think such men may come in different falvors: such as serious and protective, or positive and humoristic. I think you heart would tell you when you come across one.

You keep your man, ones like him are few and far between. He sounds like a real man to me, not one these wanna be's who think that age or a bad *** attitude make them men. Another thing a real man never does is brag on himself. His actions, attitude, and deeds speak for themselves. He doesn't need to brag.
