Our situation might not be like other societies, but the average American doesn't have it that easy. We are a society built on anti-depressant drugs.Every other person is depressed you know. Our society is so fast paced with very high expectations that hardly anyone can reach. Do you have the free time to do what you want to do, cause I sure don't.

The word vacation suggests that we in Western Society are getting away from something. Workers on vacation kick around the house, or go away to some spot warm, or otherwise put their feet up. Comparing Western society to a vacation in the sense of a week at Walt Disney World is an imperfect analogy. While members of the Western world may stray into a week's vacation at Disney World, it is unlikely that many people suffering internationally are going to make it to the Magic Kingdom.
How do you see suffering around the world? Are you a globetrotting journalist? An intellectual? If you are saying that Third World starvation, international war, and poverty is causing people to suffer, that is the luck of the draw. What is the distribution of wealth in the United States? Is it a sound argument that minimum-wage workers there enjoy free time? Are they not undermined by small incomes and difficult working conditions? Would you say that the representative citizen of the United States of America is somebody other than a minimum-wage worker? Was your point that even those in minimum-wage positions in America are better off than Third World citizens and citizens of nations in turmoil?

Oh i imagine that's what they call genuine political justice both WA events are so busy battling between themselves and one yet another at the same time as the little guy (who receives left out through both) finally ends up preserving the trump card. Brendon Gryliss will use this opportunity to provide the country human beings countless the flaws that others take with no interest and this funds isn't a present once you bypass into those communities and see that they choose necessary facilities too.

really I guess you are seeing what the media wants you to see. Go visit the inner cities that rack up more deaths to homicides that Beiruit, but that never gets seen or told. How about political corruption, the increasing unemployment rate. How about the increase in the prison population. That is the true sign of a failing society.
Our government spends more money on meaningless trips to outer space than on the aging baby boomers, or health care for Americans that can't afford health care. Look at the budget for NASA

It's a poor sight, isn't it? I see our culture as a whole increasingly becoming more out of control and frivilous each day. So to answer your question, it sure seems that way.
But don't forget about those that work....help....contribute....volunteer....give....try....and still value a person by how they treat another person not by how big a person's bank account is. Maybe you should get involved in some humanitary effort - just to be surrounded by people who aren't so lax in their priorities and ethics.

Western society is built on the sacrifices of our forefathers. They gave their lives and their fortunes to see that we have what we have. If people in other countries stop killing each other and learn to work together, they can have the same benefits and lifestyles.

No, life is a struggle everywhere, I think we associate having nice things with having a nice life. Overall, being so conscious makes it harder for us then some native who doesn't know any better or of anything better and isn't trying to compete with his/her neighbor. If they went undiscovered they probably wouldn't even know they were poor or whatever. We all still have some type of personal hell or dread.

how can life in this society be "just one big vacation" when so many of us are suffering inside? there are things we struggle with every day & things that we pray to god we could change about ourselves & the parents put pressure on their children to be everything they want them to be & girls that starve themselves for whatever reason they have in their head & war that's happening [that hurts everyone, then if theyre just watching/listening to the current events on the tv or radio] & struggles with relationships and friendships. life isn't easy. duh. only someone like, say, paris hilton would say this life's heaven for themselves. i dont think i can say the same for myself [but i won't speak for others].
no. it's not one big vacation.

No. I know we dont have even close to the problems that other people in this world have but it doesnt make it better. It never really helps to say someone has it worse than you. We still have emotions and get hurt.
