My lil cousin has called me with a homework problem and her parents are stomped and so am I. Here goes, there are 18 animal heads and 58 animal feet, there are only chicken & rabbits in the farm yard, how many chickens & how many rabbits are there in the farm yard. The example is 11x4=44, 7x2=14,44+14=58 which you can't use, you have to multiply by 4 and can't use 11 or 7. I hope you can understand if you need more info let me know.

I forgot you have to multiply by 4 and 2, 4 being the rabbit feet and 2 being the chicken feet.

How about the farmer and his wife (or the farmer and her husband)? 11 rabbits (44 feet), 5 chickens (10 feet) and farmer and spouse (4 feet). Of course, you're still using 11.

I worked down from (18x4)+(0x2) right through to (0x4)+(18x2) and I am sure that 11x4 and 7x2 are the only option that will give 58... however it is 1.30am here and I may have made some mistakes in my arithmatic. but is there anyway that there is a bit of the question missing?... maybe it is another number of animal feet that need working out?

hope you get it sorted

good luck
:)
