Birth control pills and antibiotics don't mix. That's how I got pregnant with my first child. In fact if you look in a drug book under birth control pills it says that they do not work with antibiotics. So use another method, IE condoms with spermicide. As far as the UTI goes, there are many things that can happen if you ignore it. A UTI can turn into a kidney infection (not fun) and Scar tissue can build causing pain and kidney, bladder and ureter problems latter on. UTI's medically cannot be cured by cranberry juice. Cranberry is very good for your urinary tract, it helps wash it out. But you can think your cured and still have a UTI without any pain or symptoms. There are over the counter drugs you can take to alleviate the pain of a UTI. The prescription name is pyridium, I am not sure what the over the counter drug is called ( you can ask the pharmacist). Both Pyridium and the over the counter drug causes your urine to turn orange. It can stain anything so be careful. The pyridium helps by coating your urinary tract thus stopping the pain. BUT you need antibiotics to cure the infection. So see your doctor ASAP and ask for the pyridium and your antibiotics. You can avoid future UTI's by urinating before and after sex, going pee when you need to and not holding it ( like we all do) and by drinking the correct amount of water during the day.
Good Luck!

Yes. Continue taking your pill as normal, but you need to use a back up contraceptive like condoms, while you are taking your uti medication and until you have taken the active pills for seven days after you have finished the medication. If those seven days would take you onto the sugar pills, you need to skip the sugar pills and start a new pack, and skip your period this month.

I think anti-biotics in general affect how well the pill works. It's a good idea to use a back-up method. I know someone who was on anti-biotics and didn't use a back-up and she got pregnant.

Always use backup with antibiotics, you probably don't want to take any chances.
