She could have acid reflux. My baby was the same way. Small bottles but needed to be fed every 1 and 1/2 hours. Please don't start her on cereal yet as she is too young (allergy risk). Get Enfamil AR or some other formula that is made for babies with acid reflux. They are thickened with rice starch and are more filling and are less likely to come up in her throat and bother her. Good Luck!

My baby is four months old and she eats anywhere from 6 oz at this time. I stopped with the four ounce bottles all together because she downs those and still needs another ounce or two or three until she is full..and i feed her every four hours that much. So I suggest mabye you need to feed her more oz at the feeding or else give her a pacifier instead of a bottle and see if that will sate the hunger if it is even hunger. Also mabye your baby is ready for cereal from a spoon now. If you put cereal on her tounge and she doesnt spit it back out and can sit up with minimal support then she may be ready for cereal. You dont need to buy special bottles to put the cereal in all you need to do is poke bigger holes in the nipples that you are using now. Good luck.

I have a 4 month old as well. He seemed to be just starving! I started feeding him bottles at night and nursing him during the day. He still gets up every 2 and half hours for 6 ounces of formula and I nurse him every two hours during the day (except when he has a long nap). Against everything I believe ( I exclusively nursed my 2 daughters for 6 months) I started him on some rice cereal 3 days ago. This does seem to satisfy his need for food. I don't give him cereal in a bottle I use a spoon.

Don't listen to the others. I'm a mom of two beautiful little girls and this sounds like your baby is ready for some real food. See the doctor. He/She will tell you to start with rice cereal off the spoon once a day for a week then they'll tell you to try barley cereal for the next week and then oatmeal. Then you'll move onto fruits and vegetables. Keep in mind that the baby will not accept the spoon right away and will look like she doesn't want it. Try a little on your finger each day until she shows an interest. Sounds like the formula or breastmilk is no longer filling her up. It is ok to begin foods at this time. But I would not put cereal in the bottle. Good luck...think positively. It means your baby is growing.

The American pediatric association doesn't advise solid food until 6 months. However, if your baby has an insatiable appetite, start her out on very thin rice cereal as rice has gluteins that are easily digested. Mix about a teaspoon with her formula and try it for a week. This little of an amount may not fill her up, but you want to be certain that she will not have an allergic reaction. As far as the bottles go, she she be old enough to suck thin cereal out of a spoon. Just get some very small rubber coated baby spoons. This may also help you out. Check www.verybestbaby.com and take the "is my baby ready for solid foods?" quiz. While the APA has good intentions, sometimes it is best to rely on what your baby is telling you. Good luck.

How much does this baby weigh? babies should eat about 2 - 2.5 ounces per pound of body weight over a 24 hour period....So an example of that would be a 15lb baby would eat about 35 ounces in a 24 hr. period. (give or take) so thats about 9 - 4 ounce bottles in a 24hr. day.
Does she have a length of time (hopefully at night) where she isnt eating as much? Before you try cereal try a pacifier, with bottle fed babies sometimes you think they want a bottle but they are trying to satisfy their need to suck.
Using one now doesnt always lead to a lifetime addiction to one.

4 months old is when you can start cereal on a spoon, never put it in a bottle. Start by giving her about 1/2 tsp of rice cereal and mix it with the formula in a dish for breakfast, and this should help. My daugther eats rice cereal for breakfast and shes 4 months old, she takes it from a spoon and shes doing great. She actually started eating from a spoon at 2 1/2 months cause formula was not enough for her. 7oz of formula still was not enough, and she cried right away for more. I give her Heinz rice cereal and I mix it with her formula and she is a lot happier. Shes old enough for rice cereal, give it a try.

I had this same problem with my son. This works really well... put about a tsp full of baby "RICE" cereal in the bottle. Poke a bigger hole in the nipple with a safty pin. Oatmeal cereal usually ends up to thick. I used to do that in the mornings and before bed with my son. Also try baby food mixed with a small amount of rice cereal mixed in with it during the day! It worked with us, hope I helped!

You must not be getting any sleep overnight! Try the cereal, but mix it in a small bowl, and mix it kinda runny at first (it's not going to take much). Serve it on a spoon if you can. Baby will need to get used to "chewing" and swallowing the thicker stuff. As she gets older, you can make it a bit more chunky. Please remember to try it for a few days in the morning first because if she has any trouble with it, you don't want to be up all night. Wish you success!

Check with your doctor - you may just need to strengthen the milk formula she is drinking. These days doctors are not suggesting cereal for babies that young but if he says yes, just use a spoon. That is what I always did and it will give you more control of the bite size and prevent choking. Will she not drink more than 4 oz. at a time?
