I prefer using baby sized nail files. This way you don't have to worry about cutting the skin. Just be sure to do it while the baby is asleep!

Yes I have done it as well I cried longer than my son did. My pediatrician suggested filing his nails with an emory board rather than clipping. Less risk but you dont get as close typically since the little one can tend to move about while you do it and if youre anything like me you dont want to get his little finger with the board either. For a baby that young they do sell mits to go over the hands to prevent scratches, for a day I didnt get the chance to clip but his nails were on the long side I used a large pair of baby socks. This only works on the young babies though. Good Luck

I have. The baby does cry a little but they get over it and yes it does bleed. A very little bit. I tried biting their nails so I wouldn't do that.. but then my son started biting his own. Now I just am very careful and really watch what I am doing. Also.. try trimming his nails before the bath, that way they are not as soft from the water. May make it easier. It is normal and it is a difficult thing. Good luck

I have clipped my kids nails and accidentally clipped the skin. Yes it bled and yes it did seem to hurt. The up side is that more often than not it is only a small amount of skin and it heals very quickly. Some people chew their babies nail off to avoid the accidental cutting. Welcome to the wonderful world of guilt as a parent.

The first time I tried to clip my baby's nails, I tried to go back and trim off a rough edge, and accidentally cut his little thumb. It did bleed and he wasn't happy. the next time I did better and didn't cut him at all. So yes it is very easy to cut his skin, and it will bleed and he will feel pain, the degree depending on how bad you cut it and his personal pain tolerance. That's why baby nail clippers and scissors are made the way they are.

I've never had any problem with cutting the babies finger nails. The nails usually stand out from the finger which makes it easier to cut just the nail. Of course it would hurt the same as your would if cut so be careful. If you haven't made any mistakes yet you'll be ok, Mom. GOOD LUCK

Yes, I have. I hate it!! Makes me feel horrible. However, when I've skipped doing it, she's scratched the corner of her eye. Then I felt worse. Try to distract him/her by singing. I've also nursed while clipping. I'm sure it would be funny to see me doing it because I'm all twisted down trying to clip a tiny nail, but it has worked when she's all wound up. Also, give him/her something to hold in the other hand. Good luck!!!

Don't stress about it. I have no problem cutting my son's nails and yes, when he was really little I did make one finger bleed. He really didn't notice. I suggest using the baby clippers that have the larger grip on them, they are much easier to use than just the teeny tiny clippers. Please steer clear of biting the nails, then they are jagged and if you bite too much off germs from your mouth are going into the wound - yuck! Just remember that the more you practice the better you will get and the more your baby will get used to it and it will be easy! Good luck.

First off, relax. I recently received a wonderful bit of advice from my sons grandmother, dip the baby's nails in flour to make them easier to see before you clip them, it works beautifully. And remember, if you do happen to cut him, it was an accident and you'll both get over it. I nicked my son's finger once and while he barely even noticed, I was the one who had to be consoled.

I accidently cut my sons pinky when he was only a few months old. It was the first time I clipped his nails, and the last. I use the file now, much safer.
