So that's $0.54 from every dollar.
Now since it's $32, times $0.54 by 32
You get $17.28
Then subtract $32 by $17.28 and you get $14.72

This is easy. Read this well.

He uses 40 cents from every dollar for snacks, that is 40 %
He uses 14 cents from every dollar for supplies, that is 14 %

So, in total he uses 40 + 14 = 54% of every dollar.
So he saves 46%. (100% - 54% = 46%)

Then, the 46% of $32 is:

32 x 0.46 = $14.72 which is the amount he saves every week.

This way is more understandable. Hope this helps.

He has spent 54 cents out of every dollar and saved 46 cents. That is he saves 46% of what he earns . Thus out of $32 he saves $14.72

Multiple .40 x 32 -- that's $12.80 he spends on snacks. Multiple .14 x 32 -- that $4.48 he spends on school supplies.

Add the two: $12.80 + $4.48 = $17.28

$32.00 minus what he spent, $17.28 - $14.72. He saves $14.72 every week. Good luck!

1. .40 x 32 =$12.80
2. .14 x 32 = $4.48
3. $12.80 + $4.48 = $17.28

$32.00 - $17.28 - =$14.72.
answer = 14.72
