I have heard from many online sources that the flamethrower was used there, but I can't find any information about it. Please don't tell me to try to use a search engine, I've done that.

Sir,

You are correct.

But you are needing to get the book.

Try a used bookstore online or "Inter Library Loan"

My best

It was tested but not deployed as invented.

I've read quite a bit of Civil War history and have never heard any references to a flamethrower. My reference library includes the Echoes of Glory series, which exhibits a wide variety of artifacts from the Civil War and it doesn't include anything like that either. Sounds very dubious to me.

Yeah, they didn't have them.

They were invented in 1901, just prior to the first world war, with marginal results. The first successful application was during WWII, after Napalm and similar products were developed.

There are some accounts of flame throwing capability in ancient times, but no flame thrower existed in modern warfare until WWI.
