I stay in Napa and with out exception the terrific time is in the process the weigh down or harvest. there's a great form of interest because of the fact the winemakers hustle to get grapes in on the top of flavor. this is in previous due August or early September. the middle of summer time is common and crowded. in case you come to a sort to come back in September you may get cooler climate and the relaxing of the weigh down. do no longer omit the recent Castilla di Amorosa vineyard that's properly particularly worth the cost to get in. i might plan which wineries you will visit. we are no longer wine bugs ourselves however the extreme end places are plenty nicer; we oftentimes get gourmand sandwiches on the Rutherford industry or Dean and Delucca and picnic at those places. i might additionally propose the wine practice regardless of the blatant touristic (new observe) high quality. Take the midday practice as you will locate the valley all the way there and back with out dusk reducing out the later area of the holiday. it is likewise the comparable holiday for much less dough. The food is fairly good and we recomend having lunch then dessert as unfavorable to the appitizer then lunch option. in case you come to Napa later in the autumn or in the wet season (Nov - Feb) the practice could properly be particularly effective. We nonetheless do it and we are residing right here. As for eats there are a number of great places; yet maximum are a minimum of $20 a plate. you may get an easy and sensible dinner at Taylor's refresher in St Helena (north endo of the valley). Taylors is the optimal end hamburger joint you have ever been to. 0.5 the individuals there once you visit would be millionares and 1 / 4 would be from Europe. The locals attend religiously. in case you have youngsters i might carry a soccer ball. We do and many times impromptu video games take place on the backyard. in case you like greater end attempt Travigna best around the line from Taylor's or The Rutherford Grill in Rutherford (0.5 way up the valley) the two are great. sensible fish could properly be had at a place called the industry in St Helena. that's inexpensive for the valley yet there is linen on the table and a good wine checklist. somebody else can take care of SF. yet i will say get your Alcatraz reservations now online as they are going to be bought out once you arrive. additionally are available the summer time and brind a coat.

Why are you coming to Napa? If it is for the climate, don't come in February. If it is for the Food and Wine you can't beat February as the crowds will be minimal, you willget more individual attention at wineries that you may visit and you will have an easier time with restaurant reservations. If you can extend your stay through the first Weekend in March, the Russian River and Dry Creek valleys in Sonoma have "Barrel Tasting Weekend" that is a really fun and unique opportunity to tast wines right from the barrels and to speak to the wine makers as they are being produced. Have fun!

I think a February visit will be fun. It's beautiful throughout the year and there's plenty to do no matter what the weather.
It's more crowded on the weekends. I'd go during the week if you could. When I go during the winter, I like to eat at Bistro Don Giovanni and reserve a table near the fireplace. They have yummy soups (and other foods as well) that are perfect for chilly evenings. Another idea is to enjoy a hot mud bath in Calistoga after a day of wine tasting.

Go to Napa Valley in Sept, Its the summer that time of year there, they call it the indian summer. My other suggestion is to leave or drive back when it is just about to hit sun-set, its amazing and breath-taking! The other thing that I would reccomend is driving highway 101 from North CA to South CA it is the by far the most beautiful land we have in America!

Any time is a great time to visit the California wine country. Each time of the year brings its own unique aura and feel to a wine country getaway. Even a cold raining day is a "cool" day in wine country.

be sure to bring rain coat. that is our most wet time of year rain wise. if you are looking for nice scenary, everything will be a bit boring at least vineyardwise. Most of the vines are all dormant.
If you have the option to come in late summer or early fall that would be better. wineries all start their crush in late july and everything is in full force. BUT, it is super crowded with tourists.
April & May are also nice. Weather is starting to warm up a bit and everything is very green.
