get some clothing dyes of different colors and mix them up according to the directions then get your shirt roll it up length wise untill you have a tight strand then get some rubber bands and band it every 3-5 inches then dip each "Section" (spaces between the rubber bands) in the dye p.s. the middle sections will be harder so you may have to roll the fabric in the dye instead of dipping i also found it was easy to get a squeeze bottle (cleaned out soap bottle) and fill it up with the dye and squeeze it on the fabric sections instead of dipping let dry with the rubber bands for about 48 hours and then cut the rubber bands off and there you have it a very 70's shirt

Takes me back to the 60's when we did such things. Take a white T-shirt or T-shirt dress; lay it down on a flat surface; bunch up areas all over the T-shirt/Dress and put rubber bands on the bunches; get some Ritz Dye in the color you want to use; mix the Dye to the right color in a basin or tub; put your T-shirt/Dress in the colored water and wish it around several times being careful not to open up the rubber band areas; take the T-shirt/Dress out of the water; smooth it gently still not disturbing the rubber band areas; let dry; then you can take out the rubber bands and wa lah, tye dye.

First get a white shirt. Then get some rubber bands and make little scruchies in the shirt. (like bumps) Then pick your colors and dye whatever parts of the shirt you want.

lay shirt down flat, pick it up from the center and twist, start putting rubber bands on it as tight as ya can(this will be the lines).Experiment with how far apart you put the bands for diff designs.Anyway twist all the way down and keep banding.Have your dye made up and start dippin or using something to pour the dye on.Let it sit like that till about dry and lightly rinse ,unband and hang it up to dry.Experiment with the rubber bands.I like to just wad up the shirt in a ball and start puttin bands on it and see what design it makes.Craft stores sell nice little kits for around 20 bucks too with complete instructions. I recommend Rit dye.
