When there is 'nothing' we call that place a complete vacuum. and in such a place nothing should exist means that there should be no matter, energy or even 'space'.
It is such a complex thing that it is out of our mind's capacity to think of such a space where absolutely nothing may lie.(Just like we cant imagine the size of am amoeba)
So there shall be no empty space present there also. And some people speculate that this kind of place may even exist somewhere in our universe.
