The Downey goes in the rinse cycle. You should have a dispenser on the washer for fabric softener,& bleach , just pour it in the dispenser when you are pouring in the soap.. If you don't want to do that ,Downey has a ball that you fill with the softener and all you have to do is put it in with the wash cycle. During the rinse cycle the ball will release the fabric softener.

If your washer doesn't have a softener dispenser invest in a downy ball. You put the fabric softener in, pull the pin to close the top and add it to the wash cycle. Like magic it opens when the washer goes into the rinse cycle. You should find them just about anywhere you can buy laundry detergent and the cost is around $2.00

You add it during the rinse cycle. So, keep an eye on the cycle and when it does get to the rinse part of it, then add the downy right into the water. Unless you have a washer that has a fabric softener thing, add it then right at the beginning of the cycle.

It says to add it to the rinse cycle, but I always found that my towels felt slimey, even after going through an extra rinse. I always add mine in with the laundry soap and it still works fine.

why not? you wait for the final rinse cycle. then let the tub fill at least halfway and put your downey in. (you can also dilute the downey with 2/3 water and add it before the tub fills). don't put it directly onto the fabrics! it will stain the clothes. but if you make the mistake and that happens, just rewash your clothes, but don't put them in the dryer until they are rewashed.

you could get a "downy ball" that you fill up and pull the plug on it and put in at the beginning of the wash cycle, and it eliminates the need to be there to add it during the "rinse cycle".

Use one of the fabric softener balls and you can add it at the beginning of the wash cycle. My washer has an automatic fabric softener dispenser.
Just because it says BOUNCE ball doesn't mean you have you use it. Other softeners will work in it.

You add it during the rinse cycle. I have a Downy ball, you put it in at the beginning and it knows when to open.

You add fabric softener in the last rinse cycle. Unless you have a fabric softener dispenser then you add it at the beginning.
