please explain in full detail i.e. the circumstances, the exceptions, complications, and how exactly to do it (by documents i mean text files like word pad or ms word or something)

yeah but it ends up all numbery and all... i cant read a thing... any reason why or its supposed to be like that?

Go to the iPod preferences in ITunes, and select the option to use it as a disk. You can then access it and transfer files into it through "My Computer". Transfers are done by simple click & drag or copy & paste. There are not exceptions or special circumstances other than that. You can transfer any file onto it, just like any portable hard drive, flash drive, or disk.

UPDATE: Not sure why it would end up numbery. I'd try reinstalling the iPod software. You can download updated software on Apple's website.

When you attach your iPod to your computer it should show up as an external hard drive on your computer. Simply drag your documents over to it, and they will be avaliable on other computers when you attach it as well.
