Nah, getting braces isn't that bad. I've never had headgear, but now that my braces are off, I do have to wear my retainer at night. I didn't chew gum for the entire time that I had braces, but I know plenty of people who do, and it doesn't seem to bother them. Otherwise, I just ate like a normal person. And no, they didn't hurt when they came off, but my mouth was sore and stuff when i first got them, and when they got tightened, but the results are well worth it. After a while, you get used to them anyway, and you don't notice, and then when you're done, you'll have a BEAUTIFUL smile =D

They do an impression of your teeth and that is kind of icky but not unbearable. When they put the braces on, they need your mouth to be dry so the glue adheres. So that isn't comfy. It's not painful.
I never wore headgear but sometimes my teeth would get sore from wearing the rubberbands. I chewed gum a few times when I wasn't supposed to but a good brushing got it out.
The braces don't hurt coming off. There's a little tool they use to get them off and just a little click for each bracket.
You will be amazed at your teeth after when you compare it to the before model your ortho will make of your teeth.

nothing scary. just one of those stupid things in life. I had them for over 2 years. headgear is so outdated. I haven't heard of anyone doing that in a while. yes, i had gum. It helped my teeth move into place faster and decreased the ache after getting the braces tightened. you can eat almost anything if you cut it up first. just stay away from caramel and chewing hard stuff like jawbreakers and ice.

I eat gum all the time. I am supposed to wear headgear at night but dont, they irritated my gums til they get inflamed...so i dont wear it but they still think there is porgression. Never had my braces out, but it isnt scary, just kind of nauseating.

nope i had mine for 2 years. no head gear i think the technology they have no doesnt require that unless you got some really messed up choppers. ya i ate gum, ate pop corn, carrots you name it... didnt hurt me. and the sucky part about getting them off is they scrape your teeth to get the cement off. it sucks hearing that nails on a chalkboard sound in your friggen head. are you about to get braces?
