The liquid at the event horizon is liquid naquida... and it is the response of the energy forming the liquid surface at the center of an open wormhole. My fiance is a stargate enthusiast so I thank his hours of talk on the subject for this answer.... whatever is caught in the intial burst is vaporized because it is unstable...

I imagine you'd be sucked into the vortex while it initializes, before it had a chance to make a complete circuit, and your molecules would be scattered across the universe. Never really thought about it. But I like the show too.

when the gate splashes it breaks down any matter that gets in the way, can't remember exactly why it supposedly does this. If you get caught in it you basically no longer exist
