Most certainly they were asked often. Carroll is also rumored to go back to the NFL. Saban tried it. Spurrier tried it. Wonder why these two never went for the bait?

I don't think either are qualified to coach in the NFL. Paterno certainly doesn't run a pro-style offense. Bowden maybe a little more so, but he really doesn't do anything. He's just there for recruiting purposes. His coordinators do all the work. Carroll, Saban and Spurrier all ran (run) pro-style offenses.

Paterno is the greatest Coach/Teacher of the game, why would he want to babysit grown men in the pros. Bowden would not have the same freedom to recruit "Criminoles" as he does at FSU.

Very smart men they could go up but they saw they mess it can give their families and how much more joy they could have sending young men to the NFL not them
