Robinson Cano.
He was on the verge last year finishing third in the batting title. I think this year is his.

Having a breakout year is different than having a great year. A breakout year is a year that puts a player on the map. With that being the case, I will choose a hitter and a pitcher.
Hitter, it will be Delmon Young. He will finally start in Tampa and Dmitri's little brother will tear it up like he has everywhere in the minors. Just as long as he keeps his temper in check.
Pitcher will be Brandon McCarthy. He flashed greatness at times with the White Sox and was supposed to start this year after the Sox traded Freddy Garcia to Philly, but he was inexplicably traded to Texas for Texas's #1 and #8 pitching prospects. McCarthy has learned what it takes to pitch in the majors after being a middle reliever the last 2 season and will be NASTY this year.

D.Lee of the Cubs will have a Great year. Last year he was hurt for the first time and with all the moves the Cubs made he will be Big!!!! I love when people shoot down others answers. So D.Lee had one good year that makes it a breakout ? No, hell you could throw A-rod in there for this reason last year was average for him so this year he could breakout and have a great year. You are not understanding what breakout can be. It does not have to be a no name player. I am responding to KYH answer .

I think that the hitter with the biggest potential for a breakout year is Bobby Crosby in the A.L. I think he stays healthy this year, and posts huge numbers. As far as pitchers go, i would have to go with Jake Peavy in a nice rebound year from last year, finally being healthy, and rehabbed the shoulder.

The player that will have a breakout year will be Alfonso Soriano. Even though he put up big numbers last year, he will increase them even more this year, playing in Wrigley Field, where the wind blows out alot. He should easily have a 40-40 season.

Brian McCann, the catcher from Atlanta. He had spectacular numbers in his sophmore season. I think he'll have 35 homeruns and 120 RBIs. Here's a couple of other guys to watch out for:
Conor Jackson, ARI
Chone Figgings, LAA
Jake Westbrook, CLE
Joel Zumaya, DET
Lastings Milledge, NYM
