The chief information officer has primary responsibility for the entire IT infrastructure of the firm this includes:
1) Exectutive management responsibility for applications development, help desk, telecommunications (including voice and data), computer operations, desktop services, data security and disaster recovery.
2) Accountability for all IT issues, including regulatory compliance, audit, and operational controls.
3) Budgetary and human resources responsibility for the IT function.
4) Strategic planning for IT.
5) Ultimate responsibility for IT aspects of plant engineering, including data center design, network infrastructure, and often power systems and cooling.
6) Ultimate responsiblity for IT vendor management.
7) Principal interface between executive business management and the IT function.
