I saw him in night at the museum and it has been bugging me ever since. I know i have seen him when he was around the same age as he is now, because I remember him the same way.

He's old enough to be yours, mine, and everyone else's great-grandfather, and has been in plenty of movies long before any of us were ever a thought from our parents. The other answers have great links for you, but he is near the last of the "Golden Age" icons of the Silver Screen.

I do not think his appearance has ever changed , he looks the same in Petes Dragon as he does now and that was quite a few years ago .
