Check your local colleges out for any Film/Video courses. That would probably be the best way in if you are serious about it. :-)

Erm knowing the right people and having the social skills to handle office politics (a bit like getting popular and winning reality tv shows and not getting back stabbed)

Stuff the film and tv courses...

I work in the industry.

Seriously more important then any qualifications are social skills.

It helps to know what country and city you are in say In london...

You would most likley start as a runner (ie get teas, mealn, run tapes here to there, manage extras, help on sets etc)

So it helps to know areas where film complanies are (say in London we are talking about soho, covent garden and where the big studios are) like the back of your hand and where all the comapnies that do various things are. Often unmarked doors without numbers down alleys, up fire escapes around brothels etc.

So if in London do the same as taxi drivers and map the areas completely.

Also find out all the diff tape types, and usuful skills like do some work as a barista (ie coffe maker so when a client asked for a mocka, laite with chocci cuppaccino foam... you can go and get one from the best coffee shop or make one.

Also note... many film shoots start at 7 am the other side of the city ir you get up 4.30 am and last 12 hours maybe more.

And dont pay you for months.

And lots of time spent unemployed.

Also then wnat you for skills...

Ie dont do film studies.

if you want to get into lighting become an electricain, for set design, carpentry and cabinate making, weilding etc.

For producing office experience

Photography helps for camera work.

As does absailing to get used to heigths and getting fit and strong to carry stuff.

Notice how not saying study media studies...

Only media course worth in UK is in Ravensborne college in Kent and thats via ADAR not UCAS Ask in school.

You can't skip to director usually unless rich..

Also becomeing a film extra with a regonised extra agency (ie not one that advertisieds in loot or the stage) gets you on a film set so you can see what happens.

(if in uk go the the libray and track down the white pages, contacts (look up spotlight on the net for actors), the PACt directory from PACT (producers allieance for cineman and television etc. Acting unions like equity and BECTu the crew one.

etc

First off, buy some video making equipment like a video program (mac computers are usually best for this, although there is software for pcs). After that you might wanna try your luck by posting your videos on youtube and sites like that where a lot of musicians have very successfully posted their music videos...
