A file has been downloaded to my computer which has a pornographic file name to it and won't let me delete it. The delete key doesnt work, and when you right click the file there is no option for delete or rename. It also cant be moved to the recycle bin. Any ideas?

ive tried rebooting in safe mode, and it still didnt give me the option to drag it anywhere or delete the file. It isn't the disc, it has happened before but I had to reformat my entire HD and I don't want to do that again.

Try reboot to safe mode and do it from there. If it doesn't work, I guess the file you had may contain a virus or something like that. Download a free antivirus app like Avira here http://www.free-av.com >>>> and let it remove it.

Reboot your computer and Disconnect from internet right away!!!! I had a similar problem with a file that continued to run even if I tried to stop it.
Then try to reboot your computer from a cd, and look for the file. Check for the attributes it may have, by right-click and look for properties. In properties, check if it is protected. If you cannot do that, then reboot the computer into safe mode and change the attributes there.
If you still can't delete it, go to Avast antivirus site (avast.com) and perform an online scan.
Hope this helps

It might not always be the best idea to just delete a file like that so you might want to go to:
http://www.techguy.org
and search on the forums for the specific filename and if they have advice about how to repair it, follow the advice. If they don't you could either ask on the forums while giving as many details as possible... or alternatively you could try going here:
http://killbox.net/
and downloading the program, KillBox, which is designed to delete those pesky hard to delete files. You should restart in safe mode before using it.

Boot into safe mode, press F8 when the computer is loading. You should then be able to delete the file. Oh yea, stop going to those sites :)

try to reboot the computer, then drag it to the recycle bin, or go to download.com and try to find a free privacy eraser, or somthing called a file shredder.

Hav you tried running "scandisk", there can be corruption of the file system, preventing the deletion of the file.
