1.What, if anything, gives complete fulfillment in life? Sex, money, power, adventure, altruism,...God?

2. Is there such a thing as moral absolutes?

3. There are two men on a sinking boat of equal age, intelligence, family status, and potential for benefiting society (Bill and Bob). There is one life preserver that will only support one man. Bill thinks to himself he will forfeit his life and give the preserver to Bob. Bob is thinking to himself that he will seize the preserver before Bill has a chance. Just according to plan, Bob grabs it and jumps in without protest from Bill. Which man does better? Is one act inherently better than the other?

Please state religious status.

MyPreshus, was Bob really a bad boy or is that just your opinion?

Both life and nature are a balance. I read on a grave stone once: His life was like an even spun thread. A consistent life is more fulfilling than a life that is full of ups and down. As Individuals are different so are our wants and desires. The examples you give are are just some of the answers. Why did you choose those particular examples? My fulfillment was finding a balance within myself. I set goals that were just out of my reach and achieved them. This gave me my greatest fulfillment. I found security for my self in an insecure world and I matured. This has made me happy.

Some individuals have no limits to what they will do. All societies and cultures have some sort of
limits. I view absolutes as pedophilia, infanticide and incest.

Bill has taken the the higher position. Bob is selfish and self centered; he has condemned Bill to death. There are always different solutions to problems, the life preserver could have been shared or at the very least discussed by Bob. Of course Bob is the lesser of the two.

I am Methodist.

1. having faith in God can give your life fulfillment b/c you are admitting that you need help and you understand that things can happen that are beyond your control and you know that your faith in God will bring you through the hard times and you will be rewarded in the kingdom of heaven for all eternity for your faithfulness. But I think successfully being married and raising children within your home in the name of God is the most fulfilling way to lead your(well, mine anyway) life!

2. This is a tricky question. There should be, but very rarely do people go that way. I think there are things that are always morally wrong, child molestation, murder, adultery, etc. NO EXCEPTIONS for these!

3. Bill is a far, far better person than most, that is true selflessness, but Bob is only acting on his human, survival instincts!

1. Nothing will give complete fulfillment in life and this is by design, so that we continually look for higher purpose and find our way back to God. Deep commune with God can fulfill, but finding that level of commune is difficult to attain while on the physical plane.

2. I don't believe in moral absolutes. Some things must be judged individually.

3. Bob was a bad boy. Bill was selfless and giving. Bob and Bill will reap what they sowed in their next lifetime.

I don't think any one thing gives complete fulfillment in life. Just like our body needs different vitamins etc. to stay alive, our minds need different sources of pleasure for fulfillment. And every person is different.

Moral absolutes....hmmm...you should never kill someone, unless they are already dying and ask you to. Even then it is debatable. You should always treat others as you wish to be treated. Does that count? I don't know. Oh, I forgot child molestation.

Bill is selfless, Bob is selfish. I believe Bill's act is better because of that.

Religious status: Agnostic.
